CCI - OEM Primer Questions???
I'm starting to see CCI - OEM Primers for sale at gun shows.
Box's are marked "NOT FOR RETAIL SALE".
Please comment as to experiences you have had with these primers.
Thanks - J.Solo

As I understand it, these are the same primers, just packaged for bulk "OEM" sale. Kind of like buying a value pack of candy bars or something where the wrappers say Not For Individual Sale because they don't have nutritional facts printed on them.

This would be a good time to find out if CCI had a bad batch and dumped them, or if they are an overrun. Overrun is not likely.
A few years ago (3 ?) Speer had a bad batch of 40 Lawman ammo. I understand that the failure rate was 1 in 100,000. I have fired several thousand of them without a single issue. Primers would probably be the same sort of deal IF it is a bad batch.
I wouldn't use them for serious competition or self defense loads.

OEM is original equipment manufacturer. It is my understanding that they are the same primers that are sold in normal packaging. I have used alot of them and never had a problem.

I am here to learn. May I ask the source of your info that indicates "Not for retail sale" primers are normally sold to the general public?

I picked up some packaged like that from a nearby commercial reloader. He didn't usually sell them that way, but did in this case since he knew me.
They functioned as well as anything else I have ever used.

I can't imagine them selling primers known to be defective, or in any way letting them out of their control.

The OEM primers are the same as the normal over the counter kind, they were packaged for commercial reloaders in plain packages at a reduced price

If I had to guess, I would say they were sent to an ammo dealer from an ammo manufacturer/component distributor like BVAC by mistake and the dealer decided to keep them and sell em anyway.

I have bought scads of Winchester and CCI primers marked that way.
It's really and truly very simple to explain why they are "For Commercial Use".
They don't have the tape on the cardboard sleeves, allowing for faster opening of the packages. In a retail store, these might get jostled and some primers might spill out if there was no tape! Someone feeding a Camdex might appreciate the lack of a barrier to opening the package.
