I am reloading 45 colt and have some Hornady brass. The case length is 1.225-1.232. My Speer manual#14 calls for a trim to length of 1.275. This seems a bit short to start with. Any thoughts?

Unless case length makes the crimp different such as under crimp for too short or over crimp for too long then I don't bother.

Did this brass come from LEVERevolution factory loads?

you will find that the brass Hornady uses with their flex tip ammo is shorter than standard so they could keep a standard oal for ammo. I heard this applies to 357 , 357 & 45-70.

No problem in reloading it at all.

At the pressure levels you are likely to load that .45 Colt brass, 0.050" difference in case length or bullet seating depth, or OAL makes no difference at all.

It really depends on the load, john. At NORMAL 45Colt, you may be right. If you are loading with a powder that fills the case, such as Trail Boss, or working at higher pressure 45Colt loads, such as Linebaugh's or any Ruger only load, you could get into trouble.

If it were me, I have a simple rule. For every .030" deeper that the bullet goes into the case, I reduce the load by .2gr to start with and work up from there. I would suggest reducing by .4gr and giving it a go.

Are you going to blow your gun up by not following my advice? Probably not. Just a suggestion from a few years reloading experience! ;)

Yes I am measuring after sizing. My powder is 8.5gr Unique with 200gr swc. I dont think my gun should blow up it is a Raging Bull 454 Casull.

I would be a bit concerned of compressing the load if the powder really filled the case up. If it were close I'd measure down to the power from the top of the case and then figure the bullet seating depth. Probably a non-issue but something to keep in mind.
