Default Primed Lake City .223 brass?

I can buy some primed Lake City brass for $100 per thousand. I found out it is pull down. It seems that if the ammo is over 5 years old they have to take it apart. I think Uncle Sam won't take it. Is there any reason I shouldn't buy this brass? I know once I shoot it I will have to take the crimp out. Don

I can't think of any reason not to. I would enjoy it and shoot it.

Default Here's some brand new

Lake City New Unprimed Brass - 5.56 NATO/.223 1000/Bag - Natchez Shooters Supplies

Granted, it needs to be worked with, but I bought 2000 cases and they are 2011 headstamp and you won't need to swage them.

If you buy the primed, let us know how it works out for you.

Regards,

Hobie

Natchez is in Tennessee and won't sell to a Tennessee or Georgia resident. They say it's because they are protecting their wholesale customers. Like we can't buy from company's. Don

I did not know that. Seems a bit...odd. Hmm.

polygunbag carries it as well. I bought and loaded up 500 of the new unprimed unfired brass. It was also a LC 11 headstamp. Its good stuff and the price isn't bad either.

Military ammo is pulled down because it no longer meets spec not because it is over 5 years old. If a problem is identified after some of a lot is issued or after periodic testing the entire lot is scrapped. The company that has the contract will pull it down and resell what is still usable. The problems can be primer, case, powder or bullet related, a lot of times it is unreliable tracers. If they are selling the primed cases the problem should have been with something else. If you buy it you will need to neck size it as it will no longer have proper bullet tension. I started to buy some a while back but decided that the new LC would work better for my needs.

I like this it looks like a good deal. Am I right in saying that I won't have to deal with removing the crimp? I am going to shoot this in a Savage model 12 bolt gun. Will I need to trim down to the .223 case length? Don

The new Lake City brass does not have any crimps to remove, I did size and trim mine though since it will be used in High Power matches.

That seems like a good price for unprimed brass let alone primed. The primers alone are worth at lease $28.

If you need .223 brass I would say buy it already before they change their mind!

For $85 you can get cleaned, DE CRIMPED once fired brass.
So that plus the price of primers is pretty close. I hate removing crimps.

You will still have to neck size and remove the crimp from the brass you are considering

Once Fired 223 Military Processed Brass 1000 Count

Dang it! I just ordered a 1000 rounds of new unprimed LC 223 brass from Mid Way for $149.99. That is still a good deal. Don

That's OK you are forgiven. It's new all the same head stamp and on Sale.

Friends do not let friends buy ammo, brass, powder, primers from Midway. Other stuff, sometimes OK, but Mr P is way overpriced on those items.

Enjoy!

It's too bad you can not support your own State company Natchez as they usually have much better prices on stuff. They have the WORST web site in the World but once you wade through it. Their price on the same LC brass is $120 but then they stick on a hidden processing fee in addition to shipping.

Midway certainly gets stuff shipped fast though so you made up the difference in other stuff and shipping.

I also have a Savage Varmint 12VLB, you need to full size the brass and then check the length. I went and trimmed mine to the trim to length and then just keep it separated and only need to neck size for future reloads. I only worked 200 of them and just use them untill they wear out.

My model 12 is the BVSS, I think that is right. It has an internal magazine and it's a pain to load so I bought a single shot adapter for it and like it much better. Working that brass up will give something to do in my spare time. Don

I find the Wilson case gauge very useful.
