Since I have time until hunting season next year to hopefully work on some .357 and .38-44 loads I decided to order some new bullets. I got a really good deal on some 158 grain .357 Speer Deep Curl hollowpoints. I have some load data for some .38-44 loads with the Outdoorsman of 13.0 grains of 2400 which should give me a muzzle velocity of 1,100 fps, I will dig up some .357 loads for my Model 27 later. Has anyone used these bullets and actually hunted with them in either a handgun or a rifle. Eventually when I recuperate some more I will load them up and get out and do some penetration/expansion tests.

They are the same as the "Gold Dots" same load data. Only the name has been changed to promote more sales.:D I believe even the product number is the same.

I have loaded and shot the Gold Dots, I do not hunt but I carry them as SD loads.

I still have some of the old 45 HPs they called Flying Ashtrays.:)

The speer 158gr deep curl has a model number 4215.

there are two 158gr Jacket bullets for the 357 magnum .....
#4211 a JHP and #4217 a JSP.

The speer gold dots only come in 110,125 and 135gr bullet weight..............(Thought they had 158,but not on their site 12/8/2012 )

Normally the mag bullets have a heavier copper jacket which helps in bullet expansion and penetration at the higher velositys, where the 38 bullets might have pre-mature breakup
or seperation at speeds that they were not designed for.

The deep curl bullets should work well for you since they are a quality bullet.

Speer also made the 158 gn in Gold Dot too...I have several of them.

At one time "Gold Dot" was the name given to all of Speer's plated hollow point bullets. Because of the confusion between those meant for SD and those intended for hunting velocities, Speer has since changed the name for those intended for hunting to "Deep Curls". This goes for calibers other than .357. The product codes are exactly the same, only the name was changed. I have "Gold Dots" in .357, .44 and 45 calibers and "Deep Curls" in those same calibers that have the same product number. The new "Deep Curls" use the same loading data as the old "Gold Dots" did.
