I have an old P-W Metallic II press on which I have loaded thousands of pistol bullets with great success. I was just curious if others on the forum were using or at least familiar with it.

ponsness warren press

I have had one for about thirty years and like you have loaded many thousands of rounds (38/357,41 mag,44 mag,45 colt and 45 acp) on it with no problems. Not as fast as a true progressive but can still turn out 150-200 rounds per hour.I would like to have another die head so I could set up the dies in it to make caliber changes easier.

Hi Happy Jackson. We appear to be a small group. I agree it would be nice to have a die head but I don't mind changing caliber dies too much. I just wait until I have enough cases of each caliber to make the set up worthwhile. I hate more the process of changing primer size.

On the positive side, I think it is helpful to be be able to feel the primer set, crimp and sizing to get more uniform loads you get with this semi-progressive press. Once set-up I can load in the same rate you stated. My was a gift 22 years ago from a friend.

Thanks for responding and happy shooting.

I have a P-W P-200, and have used it for about 25 years for .38 Special and .45 ACP. Not as fast as I would like, but better than a single-stage press. I size and expand on the P-200, prime separately with a Lee autoprime, charge separately with a Lyman 55, and then seat the bullet on the P-200. Too much chance for error otherwise.

I never heard of the Metallic II but I have a Duo-matic shotshell loader that I got with a bunch of other stuff and I can not figure out how the thing works. It is far more confounding and confusing than any other loader I have ever seen. If I can figure out how it loads .410 shotshell I think I'd go out and buy a Governor to celebrate.
