I'm away from my press and manuals for a while, but the upside is there are several "virgin" LGSs to cruise for supplies.

I'd appreciate it if someone with the latest Sierra manual could give me the names of the powders listed as the "Accuracy Load" for .223 55gr, 75gr, and 80gr.

One of them was VV N-140, but I don't recall which and I don't recall the other two.

Good luck on your supply hunt. I would think you could pull up the info your looking for on Sierra's website. I haven't looked. But I know that some of the bullet manufactors do have some load data available.

If its there, I never found it. Powder manufacturers publish their data on line, but bullet guys sell books . . . which is fine . . . except mine are 750 miles away lol.

Sorry I can't help or I would. The Sierra I have is from 1970 and doesn't show accuracy loads.

One note;

Just because it was accurate in their test gun does not mean that it will be accurate in YOUR guns.
Lyman also had accuracy loads but they did not work out in my guns...............

On a side note, Speer has a lot of data for their deep curl bullets online right now since they're new bullets and not in their current load manual.

I have already established a very accurate load of 24.1gr H335 pushing Hornady 55gr FMJBTw/c for my RRA LAR-15, 16" barrel, 1-9" twist.

Ordered some VV N-140 for my Sako 85, 24", 1-8", figuring they might get along well speaking the same language. Powder Valley shipments were/are still delayed, so started using H335 for 55gr and Varget for 75gr and 80gr - all with not enuff success lol - when I went out of town.

But couldn't turn down the opportunity to pick up some "useful" powder down here if I could. Found H335 (!!) and CFE223 and picked up a few pounds of each at prices unchanged from pre-hysteria.

So now I think my powder, primers, and bullet inventories now match up OK for the next six months. Thanks again for the help.

Just use varget with fed primers in all three and you will likely find the sweet spot right close to max. I LOVE Varget for all bullet weights in 223. I think 26.3 for 69 grain, 25 for 77 and 27 or 27.5 for 55 grain is max loads but don't have my manual right here so double check that info.

The original question was simply to get SOME powders that might be useful IF they were available in local stores.

Last session I worked up to 24.0gr Varget pushing 75gr BTHP out of the Sako and the groups were starting to pull in. I had some 24.5 but light failed, the chrono stopped working, so I decided to hold off. Will be working higher when I get back

Also got up to 23.5gr Varget under 80gr Amax, and more was looking better there too.

So it looks like you're on target there, but I'm sticking with H335 for the 55gr in my AR.

H322? Or viht N135? RE-7? I saw a pdf with this on it.

I use H335 or WC844 for my AR ammo and for the past year nothing but Varget for my Bolt Action .223 ammo. If I could get a hold of some CFE223 I might change my mind but right now there is none available.

Seems I'm on the same path lol. I did manage to score a few pounds of CFE223 at a LGS here, so sometime this spring we'll see

Rl-15 is great for 75/77 & 80s. H335 is a favorite for the lighter bullets, producing good vel without excessive pressure. Good old 4895 works well with most 223 bulet weights. 2460, RL15 & 4895 are the ones John Holliger list on his site for 69 thru 80.

I think I can grab a big jar of RL-15 locally . . . I've only got 1 lb of the Varget and RL-15 might be better than trying to push V that far.

My experience with rl-15 and varget was that they are nearly identical but varget is very temperature insensitive. Rl-15, not so much. But take what ya can get right now. I lucked it and found 16 lbs of h4895 while awaiting my backorder of 8 lbs of varget which arrived about a week ago. So I'm set for a while. I load .223 & 7-08 with both and similar results with both. A little more velocity out of varget and a little more accuracy out of 4895, but both are sub 1/2 moa and I'm not going to complain about 200 fps when my 7/08 is still supersonic at 1600 yards.

Have little expereince with Varget and/or the 80gr. None at all with RE15. Seems like RE15 can produce the same velocity at lower volume levels and without compressed loads. That would seem to give RE15 a broader range to find a happy load.

home page--Sierra bullets load data--3/4 down on the right click on Sierra bullets reloading data 223--then click on 223 Remington ar 15-------- puts you straight in to accurateshooter.net ---I use MSN & BING--That may be the problem but it works good on my high speed Sudden link connection.

IOW, you can use a search engine to find the data if you forget the actual link.
