Are you using the older .500 brass designed for LP primers? Lyman's 49th shows 18-20 gr of Unique under a 350 gr Hornady JHP and considers it a reduced load.

Sierra has a toll free number give them a call. There are lots of reloading data sites. The ones by the powder and bullet manufacturers are well tested for pressure. The user generated sites are based on the opinion of the poster, so be careful. I own 8 current reloading manuals and brows them all when I need new data. I recommend you start with Lyman's 49 Edition and the current edition of Sierra's manual (You can get the reloading manual and ballistic program on CD; very good stuff to have!) Like buck460vr said make sure of the exact components you are using. Ivan

if you can afford the components to load the 500 .. you can also afford a current loading manual to cover it.

as I read the first post, your wandering off into risky territory already.
the 500 operates at rifle pressures and uses rifle primers to deal with it.
not meaning to step on your neck ... just pointing at the big red flag sticking out of it

I have not loaded for the .500, but I pay attention to what Venom says. He's right to advise a bit more research be invested. I know they're big strong guns, but you should be using data that has been confirmed if you don't want to be starting a KaBoom thread.

That said, John Ross has probably put together more information on the 500 than anyone else, and he is also a member here. He may chime in, or you can check out his site:
.500 S&W Loading Data

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

looks to me like Ross did better work in this caliber than the OP's source ...
the 460 and 500 have more in common with the 45 - 70 rifle round than they do with any traditional handgun cartridge.

Default Reduced 500 loads

My reduced (Unique) loads in the 500 S&W get LPP if the pressure is appropriate, all others get LRP.
