How do you gentlemen store your powder? I'm guessing metal cabinets are the safest bet? Mind sharing pics of your set up? I could use some ideas.

I was thinking something along these lines assuming metal cabinets are the way to go:

That will work or if you want to spend more you could get a flammable cabinet not sure there would be any advantage to it except it's self closing and you could vent it for whatever reason. The GM in Winchester just has theirs in a plywood cabinet that someone built and has been there for years. You could also use some recycled wall cabinets.

Safest way is in a wooden cabinet with 1" walls in accordance to SAAMI and DOT. Personally, I store mine on shelves with back-up in wooden wall cabinets.

I store mind on a closet shelf, but if you're really concerned, Google SAAMI reccomendations for powder storage.

I just set mine up on the fireplace mantle....

I store mine in a footlocker that I brought back from overseas about 45 years ago. When that is too full, I put the excess on shelving until I get enough room in the locker. None of it is in the house, I have a shop separate from the house that I do all my handloading in. In the picture below you can see the footlocker under the shelving in the corner.

if so, and I think you might have, that could be a great source for further reading.

army ammo cans. been using them since 1973. work well.

I use an old refrigerator. The magnetic seal door can blow open so it's self venting. Another plus is the metal exterior and insulation will provide a limited amount of fire resistance and with the fire house less than a mile away that should provide enough time to prevent any ignition of the contents.

One thing I'll never understand is why the recommendation to store powder in a wood container. Because wood is flammable. If I were to construct something from scratch I would use non flammable materials, such as fire resistant dry wall and use an interlocking joint on the door with magnets to hold it closed.
