Loading .32's with buckshot
Wondering if anyone uses buckshot or round balls for "gallery" loads for the 32 long. Hammerdown mentioned something in the past and used a load for cheap shooting as a kid. Went to the Log Cabin shop in Lodi Ohio yesterday and bought some .315 round balls to use. Kurt said he used an empty .22 case as a dipper for abt 1 grain of powder. I have 231 to use. This could be used in some of the old break tops also with 32 S&W cases. Hoping someone has a load for something like this, Larry

If you look at a recent issue of Guns or American Handgunner, there was an article about using round lead balls in a .32 ACP...I think it worked fine and the loads for a .32 revolver would probably be comparable, or you could load to lower pressures since there is no action to cycle.

Dick Burg(rburg) suggested 1 grain of Bullseye to me under a piece of #0 buck. In lieu of #0 buck, which is tough to find these days, I've used .315 round balls for muzzleloaders, which are effectively the same thing.
I've also used 1gr VV N310-this left me with a lot of unburned powder on the gun. Bullseye seemed to work a lot better.

Either OO Buckshot or a cast roundball will be fine with ca. 1.0 gr. of Bullseye, Red Dot, 231 or any other powder in then same burning rate range. Because the bullet weighs about 1/2 what the correct bullet does you will find that the gun shoots quite a bit low at any normal range though.

I bought the 315 round balls to use. How's the accuracy? Larry

If you have a 30-30, you can also use the same projectile with three grains of Bullseye, which shot dead-on for me out to 25 yards, then it dropped like a stone. But ten shots made a group about the size of a squirrel's head. During deer season it would make a dandy secondary load in case you're surrounded by rabid zombie squirrels!

which can be a beautiful thing.
The round ball is virtually a parachute so it's range is limited.
You need not worry about it as much as a proper bullet.
With powder coating, I can probably push it up to around a 75 yard load without leading issues, perhaps a little hotter yet.
I think I'd tune it for about 50 and call it perfect.
thought about doing the same in 45-70 .. but I already have a 45 auto

Whole like to hear how the .30 round balls perform. Venom, make sure you get back to us. Have a 310 cadet single shot with a 321 bore, this could be fun to shoot at 50 yds. Larry

will do, as soon as I clear some of my backlog.
powder coating and HI Tek coating lend themselves to this type of load.
This lets us drive those round balls at some serious velocity that the load couldnt afford
