Getting ready to load 38 special cases. My formula is 4.1gr titegroup with a 125gr projectile from xtreme bullets and a mild taper crimp. My question is do I need cannelure bullets or non cannelure bullets. Price is the same. Is there an advantage to using either one. A help greatly appreciated. . Thanks

In a revolver, I use a roll crimp into a cannelured bullet. It helps keep the bullet from jumping crimp under recoil, and is needed for some powders to burn properly.

A taper crimp is usually used on semi auto's, where you want to prevent bullet set back into the case during feeding, and where the cartridge headspaces on the case mouth.

This is why most revolver bullets have a cannelure or crimping grove in their bullets, to roll crimp, and most bullets designed for use in a semi auto don't.

The cannelure on Extreme's 125 grain flat points is so mildly impressed that it has no functional purpose, it's purely cosmetic. However, I get the bullets with the cannelure because it's an easy visual guide to making sure I've set up the overall length correctly.

Thanks. Anything to aid in proper seating depth is always helpful.
