Have 2# of IMR 4320 to use up and have completed my multiple "book" research.

Now seeking your most accurate, highest velocity .308 Winchester (7.62 x 51) recipe for 150gr projectiles.

I'm not new to hand loading (started in 1972) so I'm fully aware of how to safely work up a load.

Cannot answer that for 4320 w/ 150 grain bullets...

I have fired many thousands of .308 in NRA High Power Rifle Service Rifle matches....the standard load which replicates M852 was 42 grains of IMR4895 with a 168 Sierra Match King, most of us used LC casings and a Federal primer....(some used Federal casing instead)

Essentially, if your rifle did not shoot THIS load well, it wasn't going to shoot.

Hope that helps...the closest load to what you have is my Palma load of 43 gr/IMR4895/155 Match Kings/LC casings/Federal primers.

I have used it many years ago with my Winchester model 100 semi auto.
IMR4320 is between 4064 and 4350 but...........
with its small sticks of powder it is three times as easy to feed
through powder measures and I really liked it. It worked very
well in the auto but was super accurate in my 1903 30-06 ( bolt action )with
the Speer #2023 150gr SP bullet with a 98% maximum loading.

It also does well with light target loads, if you ever try to down load.
Back then I did not keep loading records but I did have the
old Speer #8 and the Lyman as my loading manuals.

With the auto you should work slowly to the top loads, since you
don't want to stress the action "Slamming" it back at maximum speeds.
Mine shot better with 96% loads, any way.

Good loading.

Randy,

The two IMR4895 loads you describe do indeed shoot very well in my Sako bolt gun and in my AR-10 Carbine. One difference... I use Federal Match primers.

Now back to IMR4320 loads. ;)

I have also loaded ".308 Winchester" (actually 7.62mm NATO) for many years, and 99.9% of this ammo has been for the Springfield M1A, with a few being used in an Israeli '98 Mauser .

I have used IMR-4320 in .30-06 and .303 British in the past with very good results, although I don't use any IMR-4320 for anything.

To recommend any powder, I would need to first know what rifle you are loading for, and the intended use. All of my loads in the caliber you state are either M-80 or M-118 service/match duplication, but they are intended for the M14/M1A. Just as the majority of my .30-06 ammo is either M2 or M-76 to be fired from an M1 Garand, so I use IMR-4895 due to the built-in restrictions on the M14 and M1 Garand gas systems.

I got an 8# keg in a big package buy of other powders and bullets. I didn't want the stuff but he wanted to include it the package deal. So I ended up trying some behind 155 sierra matchkings in a Palma style rifle. I have shot all my personal best scores, 200-14x and 592-25x, using 45.5 gr. under the old 155 sierra and Lapua brass. This is far from the hottest load because friends use far hotter but this load works great out to 600 yards.
I ended up buying more for the future.
