For those of you who have experience with this powder how do like it for your 357 mag. I bought a lb this morning along with a box of XTP 158 grain bullets. Does this combo perform well for ya and is this powder fairly clean shooting ? What primer works well with this powder?

No experience with 357 Mag but I've used AA7 in 38 Super Auto using an RCBS Pro 2000. Powder meters very well thru an RCBS UniFlow. Very consistent. Burns clean. I've loaded 124 JHP, 130 & 135 FMJ and have recorded MV between 1230 and1455 fps depending on the charge and bullet. Only problem I've encountered is that the powder is fine and like dust will find it's way into corners as I auto index from one station to another. not a direct response to your question, but I hope it helps some.

No reason why it shouldn't work just fine, but I have a special use for it. It was recommended to make a soft recoiling load in 9mm for my wife. I tried it and it really did a great job with a heavier bullet.

Clean, meters well. Should give decent velocities but not the highest. I can't think of a bad thing to say about it and I hope I find more AA powders.

AA-2 and 7 were my go to powders for everything except magnum loads. None to be found so I've (like the rest of us) moved on. AA-7 did OK in 44, but nothing to write home about. That's 2400 turf!
With these two out of the picture, it's like starting all over again!

I have used #7 for 357 mag, 44 mag, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP with good results when the only powder I had for heavier loads was #7. In 44 mag you can go from brisk to WOW in less than a grain. This is when you find out, "Yup, that's arthritis in the wrists!"

I've had really good groups with it and 158 XTP.FN at 1500fps in my Marlin carbine
1450 fps in a 6" 44 Mag was also good. Everything else I tested it with (9mm, 38/357, 40 *& 45) was so-so with the limited number of loads I tried.

At the slow end of what I call medium burners. I have only used it in 357sig & 10mm, which it does fine.

It is a favorite powder for 357 125 jhp accuracy loads. Little less velocity than the slowest burners, but god trade off for accuracy, less muzzle flash and concussion. Seems to prefer mag primers for accuracy. Also use it in 9mm 124 jhp loads.

You are right about the softer recoil. It is noticeable.

I've burned a lb in 10 mm and 44 loads. I think it's a good choice for those 10% under MAXIMUM type loads that are easy on the gun and hand. I use Winchester Large Pistol primers for #7.

I would just like to be able to buy some! Been looking for it for over 6 months now. I see 22's finally getting to the shelf in my local stores, maybe shotgun and pistol powder isn't too far behind.

I have 15 pounds of AA#2 and 16 pounds of AA#5 on order for 19 months now. Truth is I really don't need this powder and when it finally is ready to ship I'm going to cancel it. I just keep this order simply to see just how long it can take. At one point I had quite a bit more of various powders on order but cancelled them.

Not that I'm some kind of spokesman for Hodgdon or some kind of powder nut, but I have in the past 3 months or so purchased 7 (14 oz) bottles of Clays. Clays powder is built in a factory that was shut down for over a year, no powder entering the market at all. And yet it (Clays) is easier to buy than any of the Western (Accurate) ball powders made by GD in St. Marks. And the reason for that is in my opinion, Western is pre-occupied with supplying powder to commercial ammo makers, not the consumer canister powder market.

I use #7 with 158gr jacketed for a 2.75" Ruger Sec. Six with very good results at the lower end with either magnum or standard primers.
