.45 ACP Brass
Reloading once fired .45 acp brass with RCBS dies on a single stage JR 2 press I had difficulty sizing (first stage) the brass even after I lubricated the brass a second time. Any opinions ?

Are you using a carbide RCBS sizing die? If so, they don't need to be lubed.
Either way, though, yes the Jr series and the Partner don't have much leverage, so they do need a bit of oomph when sizing. But it shouldn't be too difficult.

I used a Jr. press for years; certainly not the stoutest press but should have plenty of leverage for .45 ACP. I'm unfamiliar with a Jr2 press but will assume it's an improved version of the Jr.
If the brass was from a factory load fired in a .45 with even a slightly oversized chamber or was new brass handloaded and fired in the same, this could cause the difficulty. Or, your sizing die is one with (tight) specs.
Did you buy the size die (carbide?) new and have you used it previously
with the same difficulty on different brass? What about the gun it was fired in?

Could be you're just getting older......everything starts becoming more difficult then. Bending over , straightening back up , putting on shoes , taking off shoes , just about everything.
Try a little STP oil treatment for case lube.....if that doesn't work.......
Maybe time for a press with compound linkage ?

need maybe not,
but a little touch of lube makes things a whole lot easier for my 44's and 10mm.

There is plenty of leverage in a jr press to size the 45acp. I loaded 375h&h on mine, plenty of leverage.
To the OP, check your die, make sure it is 45acp. Cases should size easily even in non carbide with case lube. Your die could be out of spec.

i use a little wd40 on a paper towel and wipe a shell on it once in a while makes it easier made of fish oil and evaporates

With the correct 45 brass and die................
and RCBS lube and pad, their should not be any problems.....
even if you use Crisco.
Something must be out of spec...........
cold cases and minimum lube may cause a hard sizing but if the
brass is 70 degrees and has lube there should not be a problem.
Recheck everything.

I was sizing some ww 44 mag cases using dillon dies and on my 550B press. Long story shory they weren't coming out of the sizing die round.Called dillon up and explained the problem. Seems they had a bad bunch of sizing carbide dies. They sent me a new set and all was well. Frank

Couple of thoughts, is it small pistol primer brass, crimped primers or off center hole? If you remove the decapping pin is it still hard to resize?

Case lube for my socks? Well I guess anything is worth trying once. Maybe it will help with the dry skin.

I do my .45ACP and .45 Colt with a Lee Hand Press so I'd suggest looking at the type of case as suggested by others.
