Your advice would be most appreciated. I’m shooting revolvers using MOON CLIPS: S&W 929, S&W 610 and Ruger Redhawk 45Colt/ACP. ICORE, IPSC, IDPA. A Taper crimp is normal for pistol cartridges but when used in a revolver with a moon clip the case heads frequently catch on the mouth of the cylinder. A roll crimp would prevent this. Very difficult to find. Thanks Brian

Die sets used to come that way

Hey Brian, You are correct in wanting to roll crimp for revolvers, but you shouldn't have to search for special crimping dies. Back in the 80s I began to reload for both 45ACP and 380Auto. I bot RCBS three die sets for both cartridges and the were furnished with roll crimp seater dies as standard. If you wanted to taper crimp, you had to buy a fourth "Taper Crimp Die" and set your seater die not to crimp. That said, I would just search auction sites for a vintage set of those dies and get the roll crimper as a bonus!

A little more taper crimp might help.

Do your bullets have a crimp groove? If you’re planning on using a roll crimp you’ll need to seat the bullet based upon the location of the crimp groove. Trying to do a moderate to heavy roll crimp without a crimp groove will result in deformed brass. Using a light roll crimp is pretty much the same as a taper crimp.

Lee .45 acp dies will roll crimp if you run them down tight enough..............

Both my old 9mm and 45 acp RCBS dies are roll crimp.
