I grabbed these at a local gun store for loading 45ACP handgun. After opening I see they have a cannelure and am not sure weather to seat and crimp on it? I thought cannelures were mostly for roll crimping?

Just need a bit of advice for these.

Shoot GREAT! out of a Model 25...!

Cheers!

P.S. Now, whether they'll expand at 1K fps is another question...

Anything 45 leaves a thumb size hole or bigger without expanding. That is one of the beauties of all things 45! From short 45 Glock to 450 Nitro Express 3 1/4 inches long, 45 caliber is the answer to questions we never even dreamed of! In actions like Schofield, Colt, Sharpe's, Martini, Model 70, Mark V, Wesley-Richards and Farquharson; people of the outdoors have been curing problems from Rattlers to charging Rhinos with 45 caliber!

44's are very nice, but 45's are just better!

I believe those are meant for the S&W .460 Magnum.

These bullets will work great for stout loads of .45 Colt in a revolver or a rifle but these are -NOT- a good idea for full-spec 2,000 fps and beyond loads in a .460 S&W Magnum. The .460 demands the thicker jacketed “magnum” bullets.

I’m no authority, this was explained to me plainly by the techs at Alliant. The 65k psi max pressure of the .460 will distort bullets that are not up to the task and forcing cone damage will result. They explained that they will jump the cylinder gap out-of-round due to the distortion.

The Hornady 200gr FTX #45215 is rated for 900-2200fps per the Hornady chart.

Hornady lists load data for them up to 2250fps in the 460 Magnum.

Somebody at Alliant doesn't know what they should if they said that.

Just for grins, they work fine out of a 325NG in S-L 45 Auto Rim cases with a 45 Super charge of Power Pistol. ;)

(PS: Hornady makes a 225gr FTX (#45218) that looked similar. It is rated only for 600-1800fps.)

"...900-2200fps per the Hornady chart"?

I take back what I said about them not expanding!

Please, pass the Longshot!

Cheers!

Doesn't seem like these will work in my 45 ACP E Series. Probably just get rid of them. I should have looked closer before buying them.

Or you could build yourself an AR in 450 Bushmaster. Several deer hunters I work with love this particular bullet for the Bushmaster because it's a flat shooting and hard hitting bullet. BTW, not a deer hunter myself but have been told that due to the poor aerodynamics of a short fat 45 the range for this particular bullet should be limited to 300 yards or less.

Well Mr. Bluedot, looks like you can put these FTX's to good use. PM me your address and Merry Christmas! :D

Thanks for the kind offer but I have a healthy stock of 45 bullets already so maybe one of the other members here has a pressing need for them & would be able to put them to good use? Thanks again. :)

Scott
