Hello,

yesterday disaster struck my Dillon Square Deal B. While I pulled back the lever, the shellholder screw broke. Now the complete set of cases is in the respective dies, because the sized case is stuck in the sizing die. No chance to get it out by prying (with the risk of damaging the press itself).

I want to unscrew the decapping size to be able to drive out the case off the sizing collet with a large pin. Unfortunately I do not have the proper wrench for the decapper head. Over here in Germany with the metric system it's not easy to figure out the appropriate thing in inch, all shops are closed because of Covid lockdown, so I have to buy one online. Can anyone give me the width? 5/8", 9/16" or which?
Many thanks in advance
Ulrich

You don't have an adjustable wrench? I don't have Dillion dies but someone will pop up an answer soon. Bummer of a problem though.

Dillon 223 dies have a insert on the die that can be screwed to unstick the case. Its built into the rifle dies. You should be able to just turn the screw down to unstick. Read the instructions. You should be able to screw down, not out to get it done.
unless you are using a different brand.

The SDB Dillon press uses unique dies that are only for pistol, and do not fit any other press. The OP is correct that the SDB sizer middle needs to be unscrewed from the plate to tap out the stuck case.

The "number series" Dillon presses use the more familiar design dies, including rifle dies, like the one you have.

OOPS!

14 mm won't fit? I just measured mine and it measures 14.60 mm!

I have used a 9/16 inch many times for 14 mm! There is minimum friction on that screw since it only holds the decapping pin and expander!

After taking out the screw in question it removes the decapping pin and expander. The case should be exposed inside the die and most probably unstuck with a punch gently taping it out .

Please let me know if you need photos.

Also let me know if you have difficulty finding a replacement screw for the shell plate.

Smiles,

thanks again all, problem solved.
I found a 15mm wrench that roughly would fit and allowed me to loosen the decapping pin screw.
This was not the first time the shellholder screw broke, last time the case was nearly completely backed out of the sizing collet and was easily removable. So I got myself 2 screws as a reserve for next time... Press is functioning again, but I lost the ejector wire. Fortunately there is a very good supplier of US made reloading equipment in Germany who does online business.

regards
Ulrich
