Since I can no longer Obtain sierra 230 grain Fmj bullets for my,45 acp load, I am thinking of using rim rocks lead full round nose Bullet 230gr with no crimping group with. A brinnell hardness f 15, I am using 5.4 gr of w231 and 5.5 gr of unique. Does this look like a workable combination? Will They feed and fire ok?

The load sounds good to me. If it were me I'd load to the same OAL as the FMJ's.

Several years ago, I found a 500 box of their 230 cast lead round nose bullets at a gun show for a good price. Saved me some time in front of the casting pot. They worked fine in a couple of my 1911's. I was loading them to ball ammo specs r/e speed and oal.

When purchasing cast lead bullets it is very important to order the correct size (most good commercial casters offer different diameters for specific calibers). For my guns I normally use ,452" for cast bullets. Where did you get your load data? 5.4 gr of W231 is about mid level and 5.5 Unique is about starting/min load. With any change in components, even the same size, I do another load work up; start low (book min. often) and work up if necessary...

FWIW I have run thousands of 225/230 gr cast RN through my 3, 45 ACP guns (two pistols and one carbine). Fit is very important and I mostly use .452" as a bullet diameter and nearly every lube works...

These are sized .451 and my sierra are sized .4515.

They will come lubed already

If I remember right, mine were also sized .451, and I remember wondering if they would lead the bore, or be inaccurate, as I usually size to .452 in my guns when shooting lead. Turned out they worked fine. Unless you have an oversized bore, should for you too. I think they had the typical kinda hard, blue lube. I usually use 5.6 grains of W231 with a 230 lead RN for hardball velocities. Your 5.4 grain load of this powder should work fine for about 800 fps loads.

My load data came from a mixture of sources. Since I use sierra exclusively, I called the sierra tech line and they gave me a great deal of data. Then I consulted my reloading manuals. Hornady, Speer, sierra and Lyman. I had also saved several of mike venturinos articles on the .45 acp. I cross referenced everything but I err on the side of caution. Thank you for your help! Ray
