Default precision delta

was wondering if anyone knows how fast you have to push the 9mm precision delta 124 grain JHP to make them expand...

I have loaded many and tested with a chronograph, but have not tested them in ballistic media with different powder weights. What I can tell you is that I've chronographed 5 different 9mm self defense JHP loads, and they all test out in my Glock 19 at very close to 1150 ft/sec. That's the velocity I would aim for, as it seems to be how the ammo manufacturers want their JHPs loaded.

Precision Delta hollow points might be just for target work and not expand reliably.

Good point, I looked for ballistic testing and didn't find any mentioned on the net.

I shoot the Berry plated HP that is like the Hornady HAP bullet due to it
being a lither cheaper in cost, and it shots well in my pistols.

I have yet to do a exspanion test on them, since they are intended for target use, if correct?

However any bullet with enough mass and speed will do some damage
but how well is just a guess.

I tried some a while back and my "JIC" loads didn't expand in loose packed newsprint (magazines) where my RMR and Hornady bullets did. I use 4.5 gr Universal under RMR 124 gr. JHP (roughly 1,050 fps @ 15' from my LC9s).

No one mentioned barrel lenght.

In a little 3" barrel, I found out that a.....

115 JHP needs 1115fps and a
124 JHP needs 1112fps to get a speed where the bullet works most of the time.

1050fps seems a little on the slow side for SD work, to me.......
unless you have a thin skined copper jacket or all copper ?

I load Nosler 124 gn JHP to 1250 fps from a 4-1/4 bbl. ... have never had an occasion to observe expansion, but Nosler assures me that they will.

Precision Delta is one of my favorite 9mm bullets, but they advertise them as "Target" bullets, not to rely on for expansion for defense. I have found them very accurate pushed by WW231.
