Hey All,

Have any of you guys gotten any experience with AA #11FS powder in 357 and 44 magnum. From my understanding they burn similar to W296 and H110. Can regular primers be used or are magnum primers a must? Can 11FS be loaded on the lighter side to achieve lower pressures and velocities in the 900-1100 range. I’m considering buying in bulk for use in my 686 (3”) and 629 classic (5”). I’m aware on all of the other powders available to achieve light-moderate loads for magnums, I’m asking for information purely on accurate 11fs.

Thanks!
Eric

I'd expect accuratepowderdotcom would provide load data. Also the Hodgdon website. Or you could contact the customer service folks. However, the following is posted in the info for 11FS.

"No. 11FS is intended for full-power loads in magnum handguns and smaller capacity rifle cartridges. This double-base spherical propellant was developed with an eye toward personal defense and incorporates a flash-suppressant that substantially reduces muzzle signature in low light conditions. In the .300 Blackout, No. 11FS is capable of extremely high velocities with lighter bullets, making it the best propellant choice for shooters looking to maximize downrange performance. Made in the USA."

I'd looked at it for possible use in a SS Encore ( have both 357 Max & 44mag barrels ) & thought it too slow . Possible reduced velocity heavy for caliber cast with a case full or compressed . Would depend on pressures . Sometimes a case full of slow stuff , heavy bullet will give single digit spreads , good accuracy at lower pressure . I'm dealing with longer barrel to burn it too .

I bought 3 lbs of 11fs when it first came out. Worked with it in .357, .44 Mag, and .45 Colt (Ruger Only). It's a bit bulkier than H110/W296 (23.0gr 11FS is same volume as 24.0gr H110/W296). I was never able to match velocities of 110/296. My impression, born out somewhat by chrono results is the this powder works best with heavier bullets and close to/at book max charges.

I wouldn't use it for anything less than full charge loads -- based on my results.

FWIW,

Paul

AA#9 can be loaded down a bit for slightly slower speeds if desired. AA#7 would also be good for this purpose.

Most of the powders used for full 44 Magnum loads work best at near max.

I have not tried No. 11FS yet but I'm watching this thread for the info. You asked very good questions "Weiny686" thank you.
