Recently bought a bunch of Remington SPP and noticed some are labeled Remington 1 1/2 SPP and some are labeled Remington 5 1/2 SPP. Rest of packaging exactly the same. What is the difference?

5 1/2s are magnum small pistol primers.

Thanks, it would be nice if they put Magnum on the package like other primer manufacturers do. Now I know.

You can use both more or less interchangeably.

Not according to Remington, Remington says that 5.5's simply have a thicker cup for high pressure cartridges to prevent the cups from flowing into bushings. Otherwise same compound, same temp etc as the 1.5's, but thats just what Remington says.

Remington's number scheme on their primers has always been confusing. It's a good think most reloaders take the time to find out what they have before they use them.

Ran the remington 1 1/2's or federal spp (100's) in my ppc revolvers (38spl's) to ensure 100%/consistent ignition.
