Recently bought a bunch of Remington SPP and noticed some are labeled Remington 1 1/2 SPP and some are labeled Remington 5 1/2 SPP. Rest of packaging exactly the same. What is the difference?

Not according to Remington, Remington says that 5.5's simply have a thicker cup for high pressure cartridges to prevent the cups from flowing into bushings. Otherwise same compound, same temp etc as the 1.5's, but thats just what Remington says.
I just went through this very thing with these 5.5's, Id never heard of them before.

Remington's number scheme on their primers has always been confusing. It's a good think most reloaders take the time to find out what they have before they use them.

one could infer that you would have spotty luck with lightened triggers igniting the 5 1/2s then.

This^^^^^

Ran the remington 1 1/2's or federal spp (100's) in my ppc revolvers (38spl's) to ensure 100%/consistent ignition.
