Default Hazmat question

I just received an order from Miwall Corp and I was pleased with the component pricing ($65.50/K for WSP and $245/8# for W244), but I was bummed that they sent the primers and powder separately. This not only jacked up the shipping, but it triggered 2 Hazmat charges. Is separating primers and powder some new regulation, or is that just something unique to Miwall?

A month ago I ordered a couple of pounds of powder and a brick of SPP's from Midsouth and they came in one box with one hazmat fee.

I think it depends on the amounts of both in one box. Too mush powder, primers go in separate box.

How many primers did you buy?

Max weight of HAZMAT per shipment is 70lbs with a max of 48lbs of that shipment being smokeless powder.

Just 10,000 primers and 8# of powder. I've had way more than that in one box before.

Maybe they drop shipped one of the hazmat items from a distributor?
Did these charges not show up when you checked out?

Both boxes came directly from Miwall. They didn't show up separately when I checked out--just one large shipping fee. Since the overall cost was better than I cold get at, say, Powder Valley and they had what I wanted in stock I went ahead and ordered. It wasn't until they shipped and sent me two tracking links that I figured it out.

Un happily They seem to have increased their profit margin a bit. as stated above up to 70 pounds in one box Contact the company...talk to customer service... It may have been a shipping employee that did it that way...maybe they will give you a shipping credit. At the very least let them know you know the shipping hazmat regs aand you think they overcharged on Hazmat. Can't hurt your case

Just a guess but perhaps they didn't have a box big enough to hold all of it. Last time I did an order like that they removed all the primer bricks from the long box so they could pack the big box better.

Since the computer program that sets the shipping charge had the double hazmat baked in (although it only gave me a total shipping charge) when I checked out, I'm guessing it's their company policy. As a matter of fact I just now played around on their site and when I add 1 pound of powder to a shopping cart with 5K of primers the shipping cost doubles. Likewise, when I add just 1K of primers to a cart with 32# of powder their shipping charge nearly doubles ($51-->$94).

Thanks you guys for letting me know that this isn't some kind of new regulation, it's just particular to Miwall. In the end it boils down to which site has the lowest total cost: product + shipping +tax.

Miwall charges ALOT for shipping. I asked them about it, they stated it costs so much to get it to the UPS hub. What they didn’t know is I used to live in Grass Valley and know the UPS hub is only two blocks away from the Miwall location. I know they don’t pay listed UPS rates.

Another thing not many people know about. Businesses get discounts for shipping with the biggies. Fill an UPS truck with items and get a discount. I used to shoot with a distributor who got his discount check every month...cashed it and put it in his vault...when the jobbers, factory Reps came around...he paid cash for new items coming out. He always seemed to have it first...Mo profit!

Depends on if they were shipped from different locations (warehouse) Midway used to do that, Don't know if they still do. Have not ordered powder or primers in a long time but never from Midway due to that.

Drop ships often ship with a label that matches the selling shipper.

Yes they can ship together as per the Hazmat segregation chart class 1.3 powder & class 1.4s primers can ship in a combination package. Max weight is 66 pounds.
