Dennis, do you happen to remember the Marine Corps Qualification course for the 1911? I have been raking my brain trying to remember but just can't seem to get those gears to mesh. A little help please!
Let see if my “recollecter” is functional this day or if I’m suffering from brain fade. It’s only been forty plus year in the past.
Placing it in perspective at Parris Island during recruit training a 1911 class, familiarization firing (14) rounds total and we were taught to fire it from a two hand hold in 1964. (Cheated looked in my platoon book)
I qualified with the 1911 pistol at Camp Lejeune after returning from West-Pac. The course of fire eludes me at this point but I believe it was a combination of bullseye and silhouette targets at 25yds and under. Number of rounds fired? I qualified expert and that was a rather rudimental skill level at best. During that time period I never fired enough rounds to be truly proficient. Also during that time period rifles were kept racked in the squad bay barracks and the pistols were kept in the armory. One was issued a pistol card and pistols were only drawn from the armory for qualification, inspections and other stipulated duties.
I became a better pistol shooter after leaving the Marine Corps and it took a long-long-long time and put a major dent in the wallet.
