Hey guys, Its been a while since I posted.
I am wanting to load and test some +P and +P+ 38 Special Loads for my S&W Performance Center M&P R8 357 Magnum.
I have some Berrys jacketed 158 JHP, and various 38 Special brass. Most of it is Winchester. Various powders. Unique, Bluedot, 2400, Clays, HS6.
Do you have a favorite Load?
thanks,
Woods Custom

My "warm" load is 5.7 grains of Unique and a 158 grain SWC. Don't put it in any older guns as they may loosen up.

Yes, I have some favorite loads. None with the powders you mention though.
Do a search on SR4756 on this forum and you may find all of the information you can handle!

My heavy .38 spec. load is 12grs. of 2400 and a 158gr. SWC. It will average 1194fps out of a 6" Python. I wouldn't try them in a J frame. Larry

My favorite and most acccurate load is a 180 grain bullet behind 5 grains of Unique. In my 686 it will print into 1/2 inch at 25 yards off the bench.
For Blue Dot I like 7 1/2 grains and a 158 grain LRN bullet. A little hot but one of the clubs I shoot at set's their steel targets heavy. With this load I've never had to hit steel twice to make it go down.

I've developed a very good and accurate .38 Special +P round using HS-6. It's a true +P load so no one should use this data for rounds being used in an older .38 Special not rated for +P. In your .357 Magnum they will be just fine. I'm impressed with the numbers this load gave me. Also, at those pressures HS-6 is extremely clean.
Winchester .38 Special +P case
158gr Hornady LSWC/HP
CCI 550 Primer (Magnum primer on this load)
7.0gr HS-6
COL 1.475"
4" M686 ---- 2" M640
927.0 -- AV -- 888.9
955.1 -- H --- 897.1
905.4 -- L --- 876.6
49.7 --- ES --- 20.5
20.7 --- SD ---- 7.9 < look at this!
17.0 --- AD ---- 5.9 < and THIS!!

Mine consists of 5.5grs of Unique pushing a 165gr cast SWC at 990fps from a M64 with a 3" tube.
