Hello All,

Does anyone know of a good, accurate mid to upper range .44 magnum load using bullets dropped from a RCBS 250-K mould?

Thanks in advance.

My 6" #629, got an average of 1109fps for 6 rds., with 16 grs. of Alliant 2400 & a 250gr. Keith bullet. also very accurate & not hard on the shooter or gun.

I do not know the velocity of this load. 8.0 Unique,260 Keith type bullet from Magnus bullets,Starline brass,Wolf primer is a very nice load for me.

9.0 gr Unique for a mid-range load and 21 gr 2400 for an accurate not-quite-full-power load.

I have used Lil' Gun for some very MAGNUM magnum loads!

AA#9 is another favorite of mine.

I use a MILSURP pull-down powder called WC820.

All three of them will get me over 1300fps out of my 5" M629 Classic. Out of the Handi-Rifle all of them give me over 1800fps.

Use the loads from the powder manufacturer's website/manual for starting points. Work up or down from there.

I have gotten excellent accuracy with the 250K from Leadhead Bullets with 22gr. 4227 and Win. LP primers and WW brass. Sized at .431 these bullets shoot great in all three of my S&W .44 mags with the above load, and 7.0 Unique for my 624 44 spcl. Bumping up from .430 to .431 really made a difference in my guns.

Heavy 2400 and 296 loads have proven themselves very accurate in several S&W, T/C, and Ruger handguns, and one Colt Anaconda. Other than that, I'll be darned if I have ever found anything more accurate than 9.9 grains of W231 with the bullet you ref.

I have a lot of very good favorite loads for this bullet.

BUT my drop dead favorite is this:

(Source is the Hodgon's #26)

HS-6 @ 11.8 gr.

Federal 155 (mag.) primer

1066 fps out of my Smith MG with just 7 fps SD

1176 fps out of a 7.5" Redhawk (15 fps SD)

Very good combo

I have two mid-to-upper level loads for use behind a 250 grain Keith bullet: 17 grains of 2400, or 10 grains of Unique.

7.0GRS of IMR700X has always been my midrange load. I am not sure how fast it is, but it shoots good.

Thank you gentleman,

I appreciate all of the replies. I have been using 9.5 – 10 grains unique with this bullet and it works quite well. You have posted some other good loads that I am going to try. I just purchased a 4” classic from another forum member that I plan on shooting the snot out of….my older 29’s are going into semi-retirement.

Thanks again,

Dhasso

Try 8.5 of UNIQUE, CCI300 and the Keith slug. More than enough for a "field" load, accurate, doesn't kill You or the gun...yet still enough to shoot through a deer.

I just walked up from the basement where I lubed and sized about 3K of the Lyman #429421 Keith slugs today. I'm set for a year or two.
