This pair of early 3rd model 32 Safetys have consecutive serial numbers. The top one with a 6 inch barrel and British proofs is somewhat scarce. It shipped about a half a month before the bottem one which is a rare special order gun with a 1 1/2 inch barrel length. The short barrel has the lower serial number by the way. If I didn't know that the factory letter that accompanied it confirmed the short barrel length I would probably passed on this gun. I looks to me like someone altered the front sight after it left the factory.

Wow that is cool. I think I've seen your little 1 1/2 incher here before. Did you recently aquire the long barreled version? The odds of getting the next serial number in line must be about the same odds as winning the lottery. Thanks for sharing.

I was lucky twice in finding consecutive numbers. Once on Second Model Single Shots...one week apart in my purchase. The other, 8 years apart, on Merwin & Hulbert 4th Model Frontier DA. Both times one was from the east coast and the other from the west coast.

Hi Mike, I'm certainly planning on going to AR next July, God willin and the crik don't rise. The first thing I plan on doing is going to your display table to see the first model 32 DAs. By the way, I want to thank you again for your help on the journal artical.
Twaits & Terry, I got the 6inch barreled gun about 2 months before the short barreled one. They actually came out of the same collection, but I couldn't talk myself into the little one for awhile. As I stated above, I wasn't sure it was a factory 1 1/2 inch gun. But, It came out of the Gary Garbrect collection to Bill Maiers before it came to me, and those were two very knowledgable S&W guys. I like the novelty of the long and the short being right next to each other in number and in the picture and in my safe.

I wonder if the original owner did alter the front sight on the 1½ incher. How does it shoot, or rather, how does the point of aim match the barrel?

I hope both you and your father are doing well. I remember are electronic converstations very well. I enjoyed discussing the old Safetys with some one else. I also seem to remember that your father found that gun locally up there where you live. I recall thinking how fortunate he was to find it. They are as you know, as scarce as hen's teeth. Tell your dad hello for me and to keep looking. He is living proof that treasures are still out there to be found.

Sorry to report that my father passed about a year and a half ago, but my brother and I are carrying on with the S&W collection that he started. You're correct that he sure was lucky to aquire the 1.5" Lemon Squeezer. I think it may have been 'the find' of his entire S&W collection. He quoted your e-mails regarding this pistol whenever he talked about it's rarity.....
I wonder how close yours and mine are as far as s/n's ?

I'm very sorry to hear about your dads passing. That is a difficult thing, it leaves a big hole in ones life that never gets quite filled in. I'm sure that where ever he is he is proud as can be that his son's are carrying on his passion.
It woulld be really interesting if they numbered close together. The number on mine is 1822XX. Mine shipped to an individual instead of a big distributer so it probably isn't likely. It's interesting and logical how many of the special order guns shipped to individuals, and how few of the cataloged guns did.
It's really good to hear from you again and I will be watching for your posts.

Just make sure you don't confuse him with me. I'm the brother and if you'll notice, our user names are very similar, but most of the time he doesn't know what he's talking about I actually bought a .32 Safety from you a few years ago and gave it to my dad. I checked my records and it shows July of 2006, although I thought it was longer ago than that. We too have a 6" .32 Safety, but it is a 2nd Model, whereas the .32 Safety with the 1 1/2" barrel is a 3rd Model. Both nickel finish and pearl grips. The 6" is in serial number range 157,5XX and the 1 1/2" is 241,7XX. I'll have to post pictures when I get time.
