Figured I would ask the experts. I started single and double action S&W top break revolvers. What are some good reference books on them? It would help me keep all the models and issues straight.

Smith & Wesson 1857-1945 by Neal and Jinks, History of S & W by Jinks, and the Standard Catalog of S & W (4th edition available within a few months). There are other more specialiized books on specific models but these are a good start. Enjoy!

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got when I was starting out 70 yrs. ago, was from the late Jim Serven, who told me to buy a book every time I bought a gun and read the book. I'd probably sell, or trade, the gun someday but what I learned from the book would stay with me forever. Was he ever right ! Ed.

Boy, OH Boy, was Jim Severn ever right on books. I cant say I got the advice 70 years ago, but it was 1964 when I got it. Just my 2.
