S&WHF Website
I am pleased to announce that through the hard work of board member Dave Ballantyne, the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation website is now available. The site address is: swhf I encourage each one of you look at its contents and decide if you would like to become a member and help support our efforts. To those of you who are members, I thank you for your support.
The next phase of our digitization and indexing project will cover the records from 1930 to 1934.
I would also like to thank Dave Pointer and Lee Jarrett for hosting the SWHF site on the S&W Forum server.

Bill
I was looking at the SWHF examples. Examlpe 10 involves a K-32
that was shipped to Ed McGivern. What was the search criteria for
example 10 ? Was it only the serial number, or was it the name
Ed McGivern, or some combination of the two ?
I also noted that all the search capability seems to be funneled
through Sheryl. Is there any capability being planned,or offered, that
would allow individual S&WCA members the ability to search the
digitized information ?

Mike...Dave Ballantyne can answer your question about search criteria, but we can search according to several parameters (model, serial number, name of a person, date, location, etc.), so Dave may have used some or all of the criteria. For example, if you type in Ed McGivern, you will find most, if not all of the guns in the database associated with him.
There are no plans to make the database available on line to members at this time. Foundation letter requests should be made per the instructions on the website.

Go look at the website- http://www.swhistoricalfoundation.com/default.htm
Everyone with ANY interest in data on their collectable S&W's, and S&W history in general should join and contribute to the SWHF. The data preservation is continuing, but, like everything in one way or another, it all comes down to money. This is an expensive undertaking. Over $200,000 has been spent so far, and we have a long way to go.
You really need to give serious thought to supporting this endeavour. When the records are completely digitized, we will have an asset envied by the worldwide gun collecting fraternity. Try to imagine what Colt and Winchester collectors would pay to recover the records that are forever lost, and to have them in a form searchable in minutes!
In the years to come, when this project is completed, the funds we will have spent will seem quite insignificant compared to the History preserved.
Don't forget- ALL donations to SWHF are TAX Deductible! Look at it this way- donating to SWHF reduces your tax liability to the current administration and preserves S&W history. Win-Win in my mind.
