Some clarification is needed. If this is in fact marked as a MOD 17, it must have a K prefix to the serial number. In that case it was made in the mid-1960s. The K is part of the S/N.
But if the serial number has no K prefix, and if you are calling it a Model 17 because that's the number associated with later K-frame .22 production, then it is indeed a prewar gun that was manufactured in the mid-1930s.
Proper identification boils down to the presence of a K in the serial number and whether or not the Model number is stamped on the frame under the yoke.
