when I got it cleaned up, I believe it was in better condition than I first thought. It is a five screw also.

Lots of models from the S&W product roster have been nominated as Goldlocks guns, but I think the Combat Masterpiece may deserve the top place on the list -- not too heavy, not too light; not too powerful, not too weak; not too short, not too long. It's a "just right" gun in almost every major way, and the fact that a lot of law enforcement agencies adopted it in the 1950s says that they came to same conclusion.
Nice specimen. Shoot it in good health.

Very nice. I really like the older pre-model number S&Ws. The fish-hook hammers are nifty.
I have been looking at the same model at our local gunshow for about two years now.
No one seems interested in it and the price is about $450.00.
I was going to look for it at the next show but bought a M15-3 in excellent condition on the internet for $360.00. Ain't shot it yet but I am looking forward to it.

I bought one in 1973 for pratice as I was carrying a Model 19 on duty at that time. We always called it my son's gun because he like shooting it. Well, he took it too literally and when he moved into an apartment in college he took it with him, among his other guns.
I've picked a couple of more Model 18s in the interveining years, but I do not make the mistake of calling them anything but, "My Guns".
I bought my daughters Model 63s with they were young (two for $175.00 each, the old days) and they learned to shoot revolvers on them. I really like .22 revolvers for teaching young kids how to shoot.
As they get older, .38spl wadcutters make fine learning tools and then full bore .38spls and 9mms. All of my gandchildren, down to the 7 year old shoot .45acp with no problem. The 3 year old is still shooting a BB gun.

Congratulations on a nice find. The diamond magnas do indeed look better on that gun.
..and David, what a perfect description of the Combat Masterpiece ... the Goldilocks gun!
Regards,
Jerry

I wiped it down with a soft cloth then oiled it with finishing oil which I then completely removed and then I waxed it with Blue Wonder Armadillo gun wax. Really brought out the blue in it. I also waxed the stocks with it. I think the stocks that it came with would be the correct stocks for my Model 15-2. I am gonna wax them up and put them on it. I have a set of factory presentation grips on my 15-2 which I will put away.

Is this hammer considered a "fishhook" hammer?
