Pre-27 front sight…
I have a Pre-27, nickel-plated, in the S140,xxx serial range, and it has the ramp front sight with red insert. I thought they didn’t start using that sight until much later. Was it a custom-order option earlier?

Was this a recent purchase on GB for a 6 in. "1955 factory nickel 357 Magnum revolver"?

The red ramp was cataloged by S&W in 1952.

Yes, I think we are talking about the same one from GB. I hesitated bidding because of the sight, but it certainly didn’t look like it had been changed per se, and it was so darned pretty that I went for it. I guess a factory letter would help settle the matter, though not sure I want to spend the extra $$ on it now. Especially if the letter ends up making it worth less.

I was really giving it some very serious consideration, but the sight made me back out. Otherwise a beautiful piece.

I also have a nickel 5" pre-27 with a blued ramp front sight with a red insert. Serial number is S800xx. The "book" puts the serial number in the 1951-52 range.
When I saw it at a gun show I was very suspicious, but I got it anyway. I have not lettered it yet.
