Is 460v front sight same as other S&W pinned front sights?

Hello.

I am looking to outfit my 460v with a fiber optic front sight. It is double pinned and I know I can't use the quick change type found on my 629 Classic.

But what I am trying to figure out is if the standard pinned front sights found on the other S&W revolvers are the same thing?? If it's just a matter of 2 pins instead of one or if it is all together different. Having no luck searching this topic here or on google.

Can anyone tell me for sure one way or the other??

So you have the 5" 460. Yes you can replace the front site with the fiber optic type.

I got mine from Midway. In the smithing section replacement instructions can be found in several post.- Sorry the photo quality is not better.

The photo below show 3 different 460models with the fiber optic type front blades, The Lower one is a V model I changed.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Of the fiber optic sights I have been able to fins for a S&W revolver, so far I like the Hi Viz overmolded sight the best. In my opinion, it has a much smoother and aesthetically pleasing look than others. And it seems more smooth and rounded in its general construction and less likely to snag going into or coming out of a holster.

Is it an easy replacement? I haven't found any how to articles/FAQ's on changing the front sight.

Is it easy for whom?

For those that have gun vise, drill, pin punch, and correct bits its easy. Took me about 20 minutes.

Its also easy to mess up a gun changing the front sites if you use the wrong bit, bend the shroud in the vise, or don't put the right height site in as examples. Took my neighbor about 5 minutes.

I have seen several threads on this in the Smithing section and videos can be found on YouTube.
Look at the similar threads listed at the bottom of this thread.

Now here is where I might have a problem. I measured the front sight profile on my 460 to be .300". I could only find the sight I like in .269". I hope I didn't just waste my money and can compensate for that with the adjustable rear... I guess we will find out.

I'm just looking to improve my sight picture for a little more distance shooting but I do NOT want to put an optic on my 460v. I have kicked around the idea of a red dot or scope, but I just cannot convince myself I will like it for my own reasons...

I installed the same .269" height on my 460V as show in the previous shown photo.

The gun originally shot low at 10 yards for me and I ran out of rear sight adjustment. I made a conscience to go to the lower sight to get my grouping up with the rear blade I have. I like the fiber sight on my 10.5" so elected to with that front sight type.
Very glad I made the change. Several other that have shot it liked it enough to changed theirs.

Thanks for the insight. Will post results with the lower sight when I get to try it out.
