Pre 24 test fired
Saturday I drove 80 miles up to reeds sporting goods in Walker ,MN. Just looking for some used handguns and some 44 special target ammo. You can't find any 44 special around my area. When I got there I asked the nice young man behind the counter if they had any 44 special lead bullets and his reply was,no just defense loads. As I was walking away from the counter there sat three boxes of remington 246 gr lead round nose on the clearance rack for 27 bucks a box. After shooting the pre 24 four rounds it jammed! I'm thinking I have some serious problems with this gun. Then I looked at the front of the cylinder and there was a bullet sticking out the front and jamming on the forcing cone.In 9 rounds I had this happen twice.I'm not a happy camper. Well,I guess you better unload that old junker on me then. Oops, did I take that out of context? Are you talking about the ammo? Oh,you are, aren't you? Well,I'll still take it! The gun that is,not the ammo.

I had that happen with my M-27 shooting a friends reloads. That will give you heart palpations real fast. I was able to counter rotate the cylinder enough to get it open and remove the offending round. I had three rounds do this out of the 24 -30 I shoot. I stopped shooting and returned all of the ammo to my friend, who replaced all of them.

lowhog, ther's obviously nothing wrong with your 44 Hand Ejector Target. The ammo may have gotten wet or other wise stored improperly. In any event, since you bought it in good faith, I'd take it back for a refund. Other wise, get an appropriate size brass rod to tap the bullets out with. Of course, the remaining 141 rounds may all fire normally, but you can't count on it. Bob!

Quite a difference is those cartridges, isn't there? If you are sure those are not someone's handloads your gunshop sold you by mistake, I think I would contact Remington. They need to know what they are shipping. Normally, I have had very good luck with their stuff. I'm sure that gun will shoot just fine when you find it some good ammo.

That ammo is not that old. I would contact the Remington Co and let them know.
Usually they are happy to hear about it and will send a replacement box.

It sounds as if Remington failed to have their seating and crimp station adjusted properly resulting in an insufficient bullet/case tension.

I concur - it appears that their is imsufficeint crimp on the bullet. I had this happen once in some light 357 Magnum loads with plated bullets. I did not want to damage the plating and did not crimpt enough to prevent bullet movement.
Many years ago I purchsed a box of Remington 45 ACP target wadcutter ammo loaded with their 185 gr. FMJ SWC bullet - about 6 cartrridges in the box had the bullet seated to varying and lower depths than standard with one barely sticking up above the case.

Over some 30+ years in LE we had far more QC issues with Remington ammo than with Federal or WW or even Speer, who were just coming onto the market when I left. This does not surprise me. I still refuse to use their ammo for serious purposes today because of this fact. (and yes, I can document specidfic loads and years from my old records...357Mag, .38Spl and 12ga Buck / slugs)

I would not buy anything with a Remington label that has been produced in the past say 2 years. Their quality has gone to hell since purchased by the freedom group. Just my opinion

Old Bear ,thats what I did.Pulled the hammer back slightly and counter rotated intill I got back to the son of a gun that was giving me the trouble.I'm going to give remington a call in the morning. There is no way I'm driving back 80 miles for a refund.Mike

What the others said, providing they aren't someones reloads stuck in the original boxes, call Remington and explain, I'm sure they'd be interested in knowing that. QC issues do happen and in this time of ammo a go-go, short supply and high demand, the machine that did the crimping may have gotten out of spec.
Better to have found it out on the range than when you needed it the most tho', even better - having a light crimp as compared to an overload...count your blessing where you find them.
Other than the occasional box of factory ammo bought for a base line comparison, I haven't bought any quantities of factory loads (not counting .22 cal) in years. But to be honest, I've had more than one lite crimp come home to bite me. It happens sometimes.
