Default S D Myres rig

Just got back from a visit to my mother in laws house , While we were there she said she wanted to give me something of her late husbands. She pulled a bag off the top shelf of her closet and out came this holster and belt. I have included some photos. It is in really great shape. I know he died in 1963 so this rig is older than that. Any one have an idea what might fit in this? I placed my 27 no dash with 6-1/2"bbl next to it for size comparison.

Thanks,
Mike

That style holster is called a "Texas Jockstrap".
Great condition! It appears to be for a 7 & 1/2 inch Colt Single Action Army.
Pretty pricey these days!

I agree with lawandorder. It is indeed a Texas Jockstrap for a single action revolver. I have quite a few of "Mr. Sams" work, including a jockstrap. Nice rig you have there. I would estimate it was done in the 1950 era.

regards

Bill

There's nothing like good leather to complement good steel.
Thanks for the pics. TACC1

You are a lucky fella, great old rig by a great holstermaker.
I sort of collect old holsters and have several Myers but that one is "primo"!

"Tio Sam" was one of the premier leather craftsmen of the last century. His work is still highly valued by collectors and folks who actually carry guns daily. This is one case where I think having the holster would justify obtaining a gun to go in it.

I think you should ask your mother-in-law if he bought it for a particular gun and if she still has it. If not, that would be a good reason to find a suitable one for it.

Looks like everyone has hit the nail on the head. The leg tie down straps is one give away. It definately looks like it was made for a Colt Single Action Army 7 1/2". Now find the gun for it, either MIL has it or you need to buy one.

Thanks for the info everyone. Nice to know what I have. Mom does not have the Colt. Mac was stationed in Germany. He was Army, 3rd Armored Division, and the rig was all that made it back from there when they returned his effects to her. They told her he was killed in an automobile accident, but gave her no details.

Thanks,
Mike
