Default Newbie with a Model 29 question

Good morning all, and Merry Christmas!

I acquired a used Model 29, 6 1/2" barrel, about 25 years ago, shot it a little, and then tucked it away until recently when I started shooting again. I've put a couple of thousand rounds through it in the last 2 - 3 months, mostly mid-level loads, but a few at full factory power.

Something possesed me to check how old it actually was, and I guess I've figured out it is an original Model 29, SN S216xxx, circa 1960(?) or so. It's in reasonably good shape, a little wear at the end of the muzzle, and obviously some wear on the cylinder. Seems to lock up reasonably tight, but I don't have much of a reference point. I have no idea if it is completely original, and have had no issues with the ejector rod backing out, but haven't tried to force the issue to determine if it is LH/RH thread. I do manage to lose a thumbpiece screw every 600 - 800 rounds, but that is really about all. This gun has a REALLY LIGHT TRIGGER in SA! A true joy to shoot....

This is really a plinking gun for me, but I got to wondering if there is any value in keeping it intact and buying something newer, or just use it like it was intended to be used?

My advise would be to keep the gun intact, don't reblue, cut the barrel or anything like that and shoot light to mid power loads in it.
If it has the original stocks I would definately keep them with it too.

ddurakovich,
At this point in time, I would keep using it like you have been. Keep everything together if you still have the box and tools and enjoy shooting it. It is stabilized in the $ range for now as a shooter so keep it and enjoy.
