Did a search but couldn't find anything. A buddy said he saw one at a show long ago and had never heard of that barrel length. I haven't either.

Yup. And they shortened some, too!

But the factory original ones are real easy to tell. There wasn't enough room for the multi-line patent information roll stamp between the frame and the front sight. So the 4" guns have it on the right side of the barrel, right where you're expecting to see the caliber.

Hi
heres a picture of a original nickel 4 inch Triple lock shipped in 1916
estimated less than a hundred made. Not a good picture but the gun is about 95 %.

hi
well I saved the best until last. This is a very late shipment 1917
shipped to Calf as a fixed sight gun and then returned to the factory for the target sights, the factory letter documents this and the rear sight is numbered to the gun. I also have a box for the 4 inch nickel gun boxes for triple locks are just about impossible to find.
enjoy the pictures.

Check with David Carroll on the nickel 4" and box. I sold him a set maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I thought he'd moved it along to a worthy buyer. He said he kept it for his private collection (the one almost destroyed by the tornado last month.) Now somewhere in the bowels of my meager collection I've got another nickel one. Its one of those guns that when you see it, you've just got to buy it.

Now while you're posting pictures, Jim, show us your 4" 2nd model, or better still, the 4" target 2nd Model. Nickel or blue, it doesn't matter! :D

Second models NOOOO! Lol! I just cant get into them when the dont have a shrouded ejector rod... I love four inch guns though!

My first and third, though I dont know what the TR barrel length was originally. When I bought it someone installed a huge long rifle sight on the front of the barrel. Its a future restoration project for sure plus I plan to make it a target 4 inch during the process. It is wearing a later vintage set of service grips with S&W grip adapter. The third model is 100% but has been refinished at S&W a long time ago. Grips were also missing so I had Keith make up the Magnas for me.

I hope you guys dont mind the Auto Mag pic, I cut this one down to 4 inches then Polished/hand engraved the barrel and receiver.I just had to show it off, lol!

Hi
Dick Berg you will just have to settle for a 4 inch Target 1926 one of two known to exist. You know where the other one is.
As far as 4 inch 2nd models target or fixed sight models in my 35 years
of collecting I have not seen one or had the chance to buy one.
