The Michigan Antique Arms Collectors show turns up some interesting guns. This weekend was no exception. Friday and Saturday only yielded some ammo and a few pair of grips. An hour before closing on Sunday, this found me!

Pardon my dust and the iffy photos. I was in such a hurry to post it, I didn't even take the time to properly clean it. :o

"L", for left hand thread on ejector rod.

Tell tale ejector rod groove.

Interesting grips; a great example of how S&W never threw things away! My guess... either the older gun was condemned or a customer ordered targets, a K-38 Combat Masterpiece was pulled from inventory and the magnas were returned to the pile. What ever happened, I've never seen this before.

The front strap and backstrap appear checkered.

I like it. Had one of these some time ago. It was ultimately sacrificed to
the N frame gods as trading fodder.

The checkered gripframe is quite interesting and looks like
model 27 topstrap checkering.
This might be a special order or lunchbox gun.

Good luck

Good job, I've been looking for one of those myself for a long time.

Very nice 15-1 .
Just pulled my serial K 436822 and it appears to have the same thing but not quite as pronounced.
I never noticed it before but then again I have never put the back strap under light with my "readers" on before either.
Nice find !

When I spoke with you Saturday noon, you were lamenting that you hadn't found anything at the show. Congrats on a great find. Had this gun been hiding on a table all weekend, or did it walk up and find you?

Hi John,
It walked up and found me an hour before closing on Sunday. I went from mildly disappointed to thrilled in a matter of seconds! I've dealt with the seller and his father before and have known them for years.

I like that so much I not only mashed the "Like" button, but I'm saying so here as well.

In recent months I have felt myself growing more appreciative of dash-one specimens of several K and N frames, and this is a beautiful example of its kind.

Dave, you really did great; much better than I. I left there Saturday very disappointed in what was available. Not only were there not very many S&W's, there was a real shortage of Colt's. One Python, a Trooper MKIII (over-priced IMHO), and a New Service (?), that appeared to be re-blued (not sure on that one, though).

I saw one of the guys at our club yesterday, and he's bird-dogging for a Model 27, w/3.5" barrel. Prefer blue, but nickel would be nice also.

Again, congratulations.

That is one fine lookin' four screw... congratulations!

Hi Dennis,
It was great seeing you at the show too! I also ran into moosedog and Local Hand there - ALWAYS a pleasure running into forum members. There were some fabulous guns in attendance, but most were more than I was willing to spend on them.

Birch Run is next weekend; I hope to see you there! ;)
