Hi Jerry. I was looking up info on my 38/44 Outdoorsman. It belonged to my uncle who was a deputy sheriff before and after WWII.
It's serial number is 530XX, stamped on the butt and inside the cylinder ejector shroud.
With a 6.5" barrel, it's the most accurate .38 revolver I've shot.
I've attached a few photos.
I'd be greatful for any information you can give me. Thanks

The grips are not correct, hope you have the pre war stocks that came with it. Other than that it's not a bad looking OD, you have the box as well, pre war OD boxes are hard to come by.
Overall nice gun!!

I have S78925 for an OD and S75186 is my 4"HD. Just picked up the OD, be interested to know if anyone can identify the thumb rest grips on it. Also I'm thinking 1950 for approximate DOB?

Post some more pictures of the grips and perhaps we could ID them.

Here's My Post War OD
S147911 shipped June, 1955.
I also have a matching Abbercrombie and Fitch holster for it, but don't have any photos. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo on the gun... she hasn't been out of the safe in quite a while and deserves cleaning and an update.
