Default Engraved 1905-1st Change

Hi all! today is my first day on the forum and congratulate everyone for making this a great forum.
This is the gun that I inherited from my father. It's in the family since my great-grandfather bought it in early 1900.
It is a 38 special ctg serial number 96911. If anyone can tell me more about this gun and its aproximate value, I would appreciate. All the best!

BrotherJoe . . . that pistol is awesome. Thanks for sharing and be sure to never part with it . . . you'll never get what it is really worth, given that it was your grandfather's.

Wow!
I just found these posts in an Antique thread and moved them here.

You have a 38 M&P, specifically a Model 1905- 1st Change to most collectors.
That is a fabulous gun.
I would suggest spending $50 to get a factory letter.
Factory Letter Request Form (Word Document) < click this link, and then click OPEN.
Feel free to send all the info you can with the letter form, and photos would be advisable.

It appears to be factory engraving, and I believe I see the hand of Oscar Young.
The grips are factory grips.
The gun would be worth several thousand dollars in the U.S.

Thumbs up

The revolver is a very nice example of what appears to be factory engraving by Oscar Young. The stocks are very nice. I agree with handejector, a factory letter from Roy Jinks is a must for a revolver like this. It would be worth several thousand dollars (as stated above) in the United States if the records verify it was factory engraved by Mr. Young.

Welcome to the Forum Brotherjoe! What a way to introduce yourself! BBQ anyone?

Is that a factory box I see in the background in Picture 3?
