I recently acquired a Victory model with it holster and ammo. The pistol is, I believe, 42 or 43 made. The number on the bottom of the grip is V2393xx. It also has a flaming bomb on the bottom. All the numbers match including the grip. Holster is marked USN Boyt 43. Vertigas has gotten to the bottom belt snap. Both parts are still there. The snap on the leather strap is still there and strong. The part on the holster is still there just the part that snaps into the strap has seperated. Any ideas who could or how to repair this?

Just got my letter from Smith & Wesson in yesterday's mail. It was shipped to the U.S. Navy in Oakland, Ca in February 1943. Wonder where it has been and what it was a part of.

I have seen repairs for this issue by using a short screw to screw the male part to the base receptacle on the holster. Once the button is fastened, the screw repair is hidden. I haven't found any other solution as the mating part to the male part is encased inside the leather sheets. Very cool rig!!!

I made a repair to a friend's GI holster in exactly the same way about a year ago. I had to drill and tap the stud. After the repair, I ground down the screw head as flat as I could get it with a Dremel tool, and then glued a small piece of thin leather over it. It doesn't show. Might want to put a drop of Loctite or Super Glue on the thread to keep it in place permanently.

Note the tracer rounds. For Navy aircrews, the primary use of the revolver was as an emergency signalling device in case they went down in the ocean.
