.44 Hand Ejector w/British proof marks
I am new to the forum so please bare with me. I have what thought was a .44 Hand Ejector First Model ser. no. 5xxx. However after reading about it in Jinks 10th Anniversary Edition I came across a paragraph on p202 that leads me to believe I may have one of the first group of 666 frames that were became part of the British Contract for .455 Hand Ejector First Model. The book goes on to say that the a list of these 666 revolvers can be found in the earlier Jinks and Neal book. The revolver has all the right British proof and view marks.
Can anyone that has an older book tell me it my revolver is in the range mentioned for conversions.
tks.........don

The serial numbers for the .44 HE 1st models that were converted to .455 MkII for the Brits that fall in the 5xxx range are as follows:
5755, 5805, 5806, 5809 and 5954.
Is yours one of these?

Still, a TL with British Commercial Proofs (means it sold through a civilian shop in England) would still be worth the price of a factory letter.
You never know just what will turn up......

Don,
Welcome to this forum.
If your gun is a triple lock chambered in 455, and isn't one of the 666, than it is part of the 455 Mk II HE 1st Model contract.

Don,
Welcome to this forum.
If your gun is a triple lock chambered in 455, and since it isn't one of the 666 conversions, then it could be one of the 455 Mk II HE 1st Model contract up to between 5000-6000 OR one of the 691 .44 1st Model .455 TLs at the tail end of the 455 Mk II HE 2nd Model contract.
These 691 can also have duplicate #s to any of the .455 Mk II HE 1st Model TLs #1 to c. #6000. However the serial numbers of the 691 are not known, just that they are in the 44 HE 1st Model serial range and can be up to #15375 (the last # used for the .44 HE 1st Model serial range).
