Please help identify what I have, Thx.
I have what I was told is "pre" 27 .357 mag with a 8" 3/8 barrel serial S 163580 with matching serial numbers on the frame, barrel, cylinder, and ejector and it is a 5 screw.
Thank you.

If it is an N frame .357 with a checkered top strap and barrel rib in .357 Magnum without a model number designation stamped in the yoke, then you have a Pre-27.

Its official name at that time was the ".357 Magnum", but at that time (it likely shipped in 1956) there were only a few other .357 revolvers, so calling it a pre-model 27 helps to differentiate it from other makes and models.

Model numbers were not used until 1957, so anything made prior to that would be a "pre-(whatever)" and would not be marked inside the crane.
S150,000 – S175,999……Late 1956 – Early 1957
Yours could have shipped in 1957, even if made in 1956.
