Very nice. What is the process for repairing the chip? Is it putty or a replacement piece of wood?

I can't speak about how the pro restorers fix smaller grip chips, but i've had good luck by mixing up some brown epoxy and applying a dot. You may have to experiment a bit to get the right shade of brown. You must be very careful to keep it from running into the checkering. I use plumber's putty to mask off such areas. It usually takes a couple of epoxy applications. I smooth the profile by using a fingernail emery board. I have done several that way, and can't see the repair.
My main problem is freshening the checkering. I just don't have the skill to do it well. I guess I need a lot more practice.
