I have an older revolver made in 1954. It is an M&P. 38 special with a 4 inch barrel. The finish is pretty worn on it but it functions perfectly. I put hogue grips on it but I still have the original grips. Does anybody know the approximate value on something like this?
If you'll provide pictures someone here can give you a very good estimate of value. You'll need to provide a little more info (serial number would help) for more than a broad gauge guess. I expect you have pre-model 10 of which many were made. "Pretty worn" is subject to interpretation but I'd guess value to be $250 to $300 unless there is something special which pictures would reveal. For comparison, I bought a 1955 with 6 inch barrel in 90+% condition last weekend for $325.
Just figure $300. Value estimates are subjective for run-of-the-mill M&Ps anyway, depending upon where and how you sell it. You won't get nearly as much selling or trading at a gun shop or pawn shop as you will in a private sale or on one of the internet gun auction sites.
smithgal,
Being a Northern neighbor in the Wiregrass , I'd suggest reducing the size of your pictures to 800x800 pixels. The forum will try to reduce the size of larger pictures, but if they are 5000x3000, it often fails. I use 1024x900 and it works.
