From the archives of the Oklahoma City Library and the kind consideration of Tim Spindle of the Metropolitan Library System, I've come into possession of this image of Jelly Bryce's .44 Special "Lucky Gun."

This story was published in the April 13, 1932 edition of the Oklahoma City Times. It featured a story on Bryce and his .44 Special Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector, 3RD Model or "Wolf and Klar Model" of 1926.

This item was only tracked down as a result of Ron Owens' tireless research into D.A. Jelly Bryce.

Enjoy! This image is the only known image of this gun. The pistol itself is still out there, somewhere...

Use the little icon in the posting toolbar that shows the sun over mountains, and says "Insert Image" when you hover your pointer over it. Paste the photo's URL in the box that comes up when you click the icon.

Thanks, Tom. I had tried to upload the image itself and it was apparently too large.

Regarding the grip, while the "13" is clear and the cat is sort of clear, can anyone make out what the banner reads? Maybe someone with better imaging equipment (or sharper eyes) than I have?

I would assume it says "D.A. Bryce" or another version of his name, but I don't like to assume.

Thanks,
Mike

From looking at Jerry Campbell's gold plated 44 S&W I would thought it was a match - but the condition and engraving are much different. The search goes on for this historic Gunfighter piece!

Enjoyed your book Mike. Thanks for sharing the photo. It may be my aging eyes, but that barrel length puzzles me - looks to be shorter than 4". Do you know the length?

Hello RDA:

Sorry for the delayed response, I haven't checked this thread for quite a while.

According to all the info available, Jelly's Lucky Gun sported a 4 inch barrel. In another thread, this image of Jerry Campbell's .44 Special is posted and the description notes it has a 4 inch barrel.

Comparison of both pics seems to verify Jelly's was a 4 inch as well--but I do see what you mean from the image in the old newspaper article. Does look shorter than it is.

The thread with Campbell's gun is here.. http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-ha...campbell.html?highlight=44+special+model+1926

Glad you liked the book, by the way!

All the best,
Mike
