Prices on Prewar Sambar Stag Service grips
I've been shopping for some prewar stag service grips for a nickel Model of 1926 44. I'm seeing prices anywhere from $150 to $300. So what's a nice, aged pair of prewar Sambar service grips worth these days?

$150 to $300.
Seriously, that's what they go for. The better bark and color will get the higher prices.

Yea, I got some prices from Grashorn. He does great work. But I would love some with age from the period of the gun.

The Elk horn grips are nice but they just AREN'T Sambar. I've got both and there's nothing like Sambar IMHO (except Ivory of course).

When it comes to stag nothing looks better than a nice set of Indian Sambar Stag. The more aged and color the better. I like the amber stag the best. The nicer they are usually cost more$$...Seeing them as high as $400.00 if there nice! there going up as Ivory is and getting as hard to find......................M*

hold out for the sambar stag. They have the look you are after. And the prices you are seeing are typical.

A little advice. If you are looking at a pair on the internet. you'll want to see some good pictures of them on a pre-war gun so you can see how well they fit. The fit on some of those old grips can be pretty sloppy. Also, be sure you can return them for a full refund if you are not pleased for any reason.

These aren't pre-war obviously, but I found these Sambar grips last year for $150 I put on a 640 of mine for a vintage look. (not the best picture, sorry.)

Got these for $12, but they didn't look like this when I got them! Grungy, scratched, and abused. But the real McCoys. India Sambar Stag is just about the easiest grip material to work on and restore.

Great truth in this post from a true expert. I have a couple sets of outstanding Elk from Ken (bigmtnman) and their fit is perfect. The PreWar frames are different from post war, so it is critical to make sure fit is good on your gun. I also recently got a gorgeous set of preWar Sambar Stags from a member here who is known as a high end collector. This ensured that what I got fit my First Model HE Triple lock .44 like a glove. When I first started down the road of high end natural grips, I found out the hard way exactly what Ken mentions that they do not all fit right and can be quite sloppy. I am much happier spending a little more to deal with a solid seller and getting something that is right, and the ability to send them back if they are not.

This is what you're looking for but I'm afraid I sold them earlier this year. $250.00 and $200.00.

I picked up this "N" frame stag pair a year ago for just under $100. I feel very fortunate to have found them in this condition, frame size and price.
They are usually in the $200 and up range. Keep looking for a pair, I'm sure you'll find them and they are certainly worth the wait!

Stags on a .357 Magnum
These were on the gun when I discovered it at a gun show about 10 years ago.
