I'mJust passed on an interesting Smith. Pawn shop owner asked what I was looking for. Said old S&W. He opens safe and unwraps a very small revolver, smaller than my I frame 32s. Said don't touch unless you want to buy. $1200. Cracked pearl no emblem, very faint S&W logo, Nickel, with Nickel trigger and hammer. Think renickel job. Odd little non nickel knob on front of ejector rod bolt housing. Never saw Smith like it.
What model etc was this. Bummer about the buff and renickel. He says all original. I don't think so.

That was a Ladysmith. There were several variations, all chambered in .22 Long. They can be quite valuable, but not in the condition you describe.

They are the .22 Hand Ejector, other wise called the "Ladysmith" by collectors. They came in three models, 1st, 2nd & 3rd. They were chambered in .22 Long, not Long Rifle. They are very collectable, but not the one your looking at. The pearls are wrong and the give-away is the hammer and trigger are plated.

The "M" frame is the small original .22 Ladysmith. It is chambered for the .22 Long, NOT a Long Rifle. 7 shot. The 1st model was made 1902-1906, 2nd model 1906-1910, 3rd model 1911-1921. It was discontinued in 1921. There were 26,152 made (all 3 models combined). They are somewhat scarce due to the age, many were ruined by attempting to shoot 22LR, which leads toward the higher prices. Finding one all original with an intact forcing cone is not easy.

I figured they had to be kinda rare. Never saw one before and heard very little about frames smaller than I frames. Owner was not pleased when I read marked that I thought it was refinished because of washed out trademark and that S&W never nickeled hammer or trigger. Never argued just left. Kinda neat seeing amini Smith through

Gonna be a real butt, but I believe they were chambered for 22 S&W.

Neat little guns. For future readers, here are a couple pictures that compare the size of the 22 Ladysmith to other frame sizes of the era. They were not rare since over 26,000 were made, but little is known of how many survive today. Delicate guns that when fed a steady diet of 22 LRs would often end in the destruction of the revolver.

I have a 3rd model Ladysmith 6" barrel target model. Took it to the Tulsa gun show to get an appraisal. Got a lot of OOhs and Aahs, but finally got to a S&W broker collector who gave me an appraisal of 6000 to 6500. he offered to buy it at someshat less than that but I plan to keep it for a while.
As with most collectibles, condition and original finish is everything. I lettered mine, it has a Feb 1914 ship date.

"But" you are specifically correct and that's the stamping on the barrel: ."22 S&W CTG.", the .22 Long.
