Model 19 No Dash Revolver
I finalized a trade deal today on a Model 19 No Dash revolver, original owner shot the gun very little, cleaned it very good and sold it in the late 70's to the fellow I got it from, he never shot it.
Included with the gun is the original box, sheet of waxed paper, cleaning rod with bore mop and sight adjustment tool in original plastic bag (opened) and the bag of desiccant.
Some questions:
~Since the instructions and warranty info are printed on the inside of the box was there an additional instruction manual included from the factory?
~I think the No Dash Model 19's were built in the 1955-57 time frame, can a more exact date be found using the serial number (K343xxx)?
~I got this gun on a trade that I am pleased with but what would you estimate the value to be?
~Is this a gun that I should not shoot, I would hate to diminish its value.
Any other info regarding this gun would be appreciated.

Closest I have listed to K343xxx is K345xxx which shipped in 8/59.

Since it's a model 19 I do believe it came with an instruction sheet.

Congrats on your new 19. Since it's been shot already by original owner, it won't hurt value to enjoy shooting it now.
Clean and storage prep are important, but shoot it. That's what it designed for!
Have fun.........

Meaning no disrespect, I believe your gun is worth a good bit more. If you were to post this on GunBroker, you would easily get $1500 for a no dash in the box with minimal handling marks. I'll take it today for 1150

Xfuzz, I think the box label on the first auction you listed is phony and I know the papers inside are later than the gun, since S&W still not get together to Fiocchi to make the S&W ammo and brochure until well into the mid to late 60's. The gun of course is apparently a '58.

One of my fantasies is to find a Model 19 no dash on a gun show table, and the seller knows nothing about the difference between a Model 19 and a Model 19-4.

In that condition with the box and tools I would think $1500 would be a starting point!

Very nice Model 19 !
I was just at the big Lakeland Fl gunshow and saw one close to your serial in very high condition except had one tiny spot of pitting on the left side frame just above the trigger,
Sellers ask was $950 for gun and original grips but he said he would do $850.
Your OEM box sweetens the deal especially since it doesnt say "Model 19" yet !
Thanks for sharing it
PS forgot to mention my closest is Serial K 345422 that shipped August 1959 and my guess is your gun shipped very late 1958 or early 1959.

I think 950-1150 is a good price range for this one.
1500 for a K-frame is Dream money around here.
Like others have said, shoot it and enjoy it.
If you keep it cleaned and out of a holster (wear),
no reason it won't hold it's value.
It's not a paperweight.
Enjoy !!!
Chuck

Nice 19 no dash. My 19 is a no dash as well, but the SN puts it as 1960-61 production. I never could figure that out, as by then the dash 1 had been introduced. Compared to later models I find the early Model 19s to be superior in terms of fit and finish. Good sixguns are supposed to be fired, I would limit the use of full-house 125 grain Magnum loads. Mine shoots 158s the best, as well as 125 grain Golden Sabers and all .38s.

Model numbers weren't introduced until 1957 and many collectors feel that the stamping didn't show up until 1958.

You know if a man bought a combat magnum in each barrel length , dash and finish it probably would come close to 99 combat magnums! Lets see---- pre 19 through 19-8 4" that would be 18 right? ( not sure if 19-8 came in nickle though I dont see many of those) I wonder if the 19-2 2.5 went all the way through the 19-8 model revision in both finishes. If so that would be 14. Then bring in the six inch 19's.released in 1963 if I am reading the book correctly, so I reckon 6 " 19s would have started at -2. So I guess its possible to have 14 different dashes of six inch. Possible count now going to 46 then you would have to factor in comcommeritives, three inchers & five inches. Oh well my A D D is starting to kick in. Apologies for the thread drift. What were we talking about any way? I might have to come up with a new song. One that never ends. It just goes on and on again.

Did the pack of desiccant come from the factory or is it something the original owner added to control moisture?

While my focus is more on the guns themselves, IMO your gun would have originally had a paper folded owners manual,
One of our members started an "Ultimate Combat Magnum" thread a while back, here is a link.

Most 19-1's I have seen are between K-454,000 and K-466,000 and shipped in 1962,
IMO the Model 19's fit and finish is equal up until around 1972 (ish).... ;0
Also IIRC while Combat Magnum model stamps begin as early as K-316,000 many escaped without the model marking that are much higher in serial , My Serial K-317946 shipped May, 1958 and is probably more of a "Non model marked" Model 19 than a "Pre 19" as Model marking existed at that time.

I owned .357 Combat Magnum serial# K 381289, which shipped in June, 1958, and had no model marking. It is the highest serial number I've seen in a non-model marked configuration.

Very interesting especially considering model marked 19's near K344000 are commonly observed shipping 1 full year later,
Could be it went right out the door while a vein of lower serial guns waited in the back of the vault although more likely it was made in a large batch and was at the front of the vault when a shipment went out as S&W revolvers were not assembled or shipped in numerical order

I have a twin 19 no-dash.
Mine has the same box as yours.
Grease penciled number on bottom.
Same white label on end and large S&W on the other end.
Mine has a folded warranty card and a helpful hints brochure in the box.
The serial number is K3559xx, which is a little later than yours.
Maybe these are the papers that should be in yours as well?
Condition is like yours , with a slight turn ring.
I see a lot of estimates on value . I know if there was an offer of $1500 on mine it would have a new home. Not sure anything under that would make me break up with it. So I guess I value mine at that.
It is good to see the $$ going up on these fine old revolvers. Such a deep blue.
Congrats on a great find.
Twig.
