Ivory and pearl stocks? Any factory original stags out there? I've never owned a genuine set of S&W ivories or pearls but I would love to see some. Did they usually appear on engraved, presentation guns or are they often found on otherwise unadorned pieces?

If you have some genuine original equipment ivory, pearl or stag stocks can you share a photo? I know some of the serious guys around here have some.

While doing research on factory letters, I have seen several invoices listing ivory and pearl stocks on various models. There have been a number of revolvers with both ivory and pearl stock on guns that letter to M W Robinson. The invoice says they shipped with either wood or hard rubber stocks. M W Robinson supplied Smith & Wesson with pearl or ivory and would swap stocks to meet a customers order. I had a .38 SA with Ivory stocks that lettered to Robinson. In his letter to me Roy Jinks stated he felt that the stocks were original to the gun being it shipped to M W Robinson since they supplied stock to S&W. Here is a picture of my .22/32 HFT with a 2" barrel, pearl stocks and a Humpback Hammer. It was owned by D B Wesson's son-in-law. This is exactly how I got it.

SP, here's some factory pearls on a model 1903 target shipped in 1906 to Marcus Hartley in New York.

Not a set of grips but an interesting notice on the inside of a 3rd Model Single Shot Target.

Default Special Order Strocks

These first two pictures are the birds-eye maple stocks on a 44 smoothbore that was given to Congressman Cecil King.

These next pictures are a 1915-ish .38 target with a full ivory treatment. The stocks are
ivory, and very lightly engraved with the owners initials. The front-sight blade is an Ivory Lyman bead, and the rear sights are Lyman Ivory bar sights.

This next picture is the front sight blades on a pair of revolvers made up for Fred Miller in 1940. I think he was the factory superintendent at the time. One revolver is a .22, the
other is a .38. The grips are special Roper stocks, that have a bit of floral decoration at the top.

These next two picture are on a presentation Police Target revolver. It was presented to Captain Frank Campbell of the Denver Colorado PD.

These next two pictures are 4" 1899 .38 targets, one in nickel and one in blue. The nickel gun was ordered with pearl stocks.

I do have a pair of special-order 4" targets from 1910. They are serial-numbered in the 32-20 series, but are chambered in 32 long. I assume this thread is about special-order grips, so I am not including pictures of them.

Regards, Mike Priwer

S&W 29-10 Lew Horton.jpgS&W 624 Lew Horton.jpg

Sig P229 Equinox.jpg

Springfield M1A National Match.jpg

As I understand it, the Lew Horton guns are custom orders by them that are built at the S&W factory, therefore the 624 and 29-10 are factory custom guns.

The Sig P229 Equinox was a limited production (limited interest?) gun. It's listed as wearing their Custom Shop grips, and the finish is specific to the gun.

The Springfield M1A has factory custom work not externally visible: It has National Match parts. I have a factory letter for it. The SOCOM II above it is factory standard for the model.

I have several guns with optional factory-installed sights. Not worth posting the pix.

The ivory diamond carved stocks on these two Jarvis engraved 357's letter as shipping with the guns:

Some close ups of the stocks:

Probably some of the most beautiful stocks I have ever seen on any S&W (and the guns with the rare Blanchard front sights are not too shabby either).
