Default Not a Birth Year, so How about a "First Grade Year?"

I saw this in the case a few weeks ago, and put it on layaway, thinking it was a five screw K-22. Picked it up today and bought it home, still thinking the same thing. It wasn't until I started to clean/wax it that I noticed it's a four screw.

Serial number (K326xxx) says it's from 1958. It's been fired, but not very often I don't think. No box or papers. There are a few spots of rust along the barrel, left side, but they're hard to see.

It will get to the range soon.

Are you grasping at straws, or just need a reason to buy another Smith? I was at local gun store today, and saw a very nice Model 18. I don't see too many .22's (Smith) up for grabs. Enjoy your new gun! It sure looks good! Bob

That's funny. I would have been looking all over the place for the screw that fell out!
Nice Masterpiece, congrats. I love shooting 22s.

I'm a sucker for diamond magna grips. As soon as I see a set in the case, I go on point like a bird dog. I've owned a couple of early K-22's in the past, but had to sell them for one reason on another.

I would have sworn it was a five screw. As a matter of fact on the way out the door, I told the guy who does the final "paperwork check" that it was a five screw. I guess my eyes saw the pin at the top of the sideplate, but my brain saw a screw there. I had even pulled the grips to (1) see if they numbered to the gun (they do), and (2) make sure the "5th" screw was under there (I know, I know...that one is always there).

Now you have done it! Opened a can of worms that is...First Grade Year? Well then, now you will just have to fill in grades 2 thru 12. Unless you live down South, then you only need to go to 8th Grade!

Default First grade gun

Really nice "5" screw ( factory obviously forgot one of them). My DOB is 1947, but the closest I found is a 1948 M&P ( factory obviously messed up the SN). Seriously; 3,4,or 5 screw, that K-22 is a gem

Never thought of school year guns, I am sure I have some covered and one by a 4 screw K22 like yours.
I do have a birth year gun. A M&P 38 from 1951

Talking High school graduation gun

I got this M37 no dash that was built in 1968. That's the year I graduated from HS. I think you may have started something here sir!
Peace,
Gordon
