Registered magnums shipped to Pierce County, Wa? Harold Webb? Edit 2:: Found him!!
Edited below. He has been found.
As the title asks, anyone have or knows of a RM shipped to the Pierce County, Washington Sheriff's Office?
I'm fishing while awaiting a letter....
Thanks,
Hank
I know, before anyone says anything....It's just a story....But..
Adding a pic. Under left stock: Harold Webb Pierce County Sheriff Office. I have a story this gun is out of Orting, Washington. Thats in Pierce County, Washington. Help me find history of this Officer please.
Update 2..Thanks to Detective Sergeant Portma of the Pierce County Sheriff's Dept. He has been found. HAROLD WEBB, the name in pencil on the stocks, worked for Pierce County Sheriff's Office in Washington. Ne record on start date, but he left in early 1950s only to return to be Chief Of Reserve Officers.
This gun was his service weapon and the weapon of the Chief Of Orting, Wa Police Dept as well. I now have pics of both.

Reason: Adding a pic
Sorry, I don't know of any, however have you searched the inventory archives of small arms of the Sheriff's office for the period Registered Magnums were available? Public agencies that spent public monies usually identified what they were buying for their weapon inventories, plus when they sold guns as surplus, the delete and revenue received was recorded. Ed.
Unfortunately for me, I live in the southeast. A bit of a drive for me..
If those records were available online, I would be all over it.
Thanks for the idea though.
Well that's just down the road from me, but I'm sure you'd get just as far by calling the department and asking for info. I imagine police stations don't have many folks rooting through 80 year old records too often.
Many law enforcement dep'ts have a historian, or museum, just like Smith & Wesson. Sometimes run by retirees that just love a challenge like finding out if there's a record of the Registered Magnum in their archives. perhaps Dan Meigs or hkcavalier could provide a Sheriff's phone number for Hank to call ? Ed.

I had some time at lunch and called the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. I simply explained what I was looking for and was given the name and number of the unofficial historian. I have left a message with him so hopefully he will return my call.
Acquiring a gun is fun, finding the gun's history is even more fun!
Thanks again,
Hank
While the S&W's I have are neither rare or historical I really appreciate it when one of the members here does receive a letter. Sometimes it is shipped to a large sporting concern or a hardware store. But when It is sent to one person things change. May have been a police officer or serviceman. And I must admit to being fascinated by some of the contents of these letters. Thanks for sharing. Frank
